PROMISED LAND
The novel "Promised Land" by author Kazuichi Iijima, first published in 1983 has been adapted into a live-action film after 38 years. Set in the Tohoku region, this drama portrays two young people who boldly challenge the forbidden bear hunt. In the Matagi mountains, where the awe and coexistence with nature that humans have willingly lost still persist, these young people seek to break through something within themselves by hunting bears. Will they continue the Matagi tradition, or will they seek new values and embark on a journey to new lands? This film, the second in the YOIHI PROJECT series, explores the culture of the Matagi and the fading tradition of cultural heritage.
Okiku and the World
The film Okiku and the World is about a love story between a woman Okiku, who lives in a row house in Edo, and a man Chuji, who comes to the row house to buy night soil. During the Edo era, people cherished and carefully used everything. They even used human excrement as fertilizer and used up limited resources. This lifestyle created a recycling-based society, leading people to lives blessed by nature. This film depicts such a lifestyle of the Edo citizens.
